women of the bauhaus

As a MONDOBLOGO reader said recently,
it has kinda been a
"sausage fest"
around here lately.
So here is to the ladies!
(I got in "trouble" in grad school when I called 2 women
"ladies", so if you are part of that tribe of uptights,
I apologize in advance for using the word "lady"....)

  1. Fantastic! Thanks so much. That airplane cup is so cool. It appears a lot of these women lived to a ripe old age. Artistic expression must be good for your health.

  5. Ok, it's late, and maybe I have had a glass of wine or three, but anyone who reads MONDOBLOGO knows that I give equal time. I'm not gonna do the work for you, but it you look, this blog is 50/50, (to the best of my ability) DESPITE the historical weight against that effort....
But, maybe you are just fucking with me to get a rise, and if so, you win!!!

I'll get off my hi-horse now... it's time for a little kava-kava and bed....

  6. Great post. I don't come here for equality but amazing art, ideas and info. I am never disappointed and you never serve sausage for sausage sake, but history dictates the balance.

  11. Really interesting material; where does it reside, to whom does it belong? I refer particularly to the headshot of Ise Gropius. I met her in the late 1960's and for a time was her personal photographer. I had never seen her as a young woman, so there was some shock...

    Thank you,

    Taylor Gregg

  12. A- All the photos are from the most excellent book "Bauhaus Women: Art, Handicraft, Design". You can find a copy pretty easily online, and it is well worth it. As far as who took that very early shot of Ise, I would have to reference the boo,k which is at home, as I am still away for the holidays. I will check for a photo credit when I return. Amazing that you were her personal photographer, I would LOVE to see some of your photographs. Thanks for the comment, and I will update you with the photo credit soon.... Best, Patrick
