Is this an "all that glitters is gold" situation? Are we supposed to forgive all the Mission kitsch because it's true Stickley and van Erp? I puzzled over these images, trying to figure out what makes everything look so chintzy and ersatz, and I guess it's all contextual. The rooms look like something in suburban tract housing, albeit crammed with millions in exceptional art arranged to look boring. For some reason I find the whole spread depressing.
