ruth asawa: genius with wire

Ruth Asawa
1952

I've been thinking about
Northern California a lot lately....
So when I saw this Ruth Asawa book
hiding on a low shelf I wondered
why the fuck I hadn't posted
anything on her yet.
Ok,
maybe there have been a few mentions here and there,
but she is one of my all time favorites
and definitely an inspiration when it
comes to obsessiveness and the ability for tedious
mind-expanding repetition...
traits greatly admire.
So,
get into these shots, and expect more from
me on Ruth soon....

  4. Asawa must be in the collective conscious these days. I even saw recently that Ellen DeGeneres has a massive piece in her living room, and it seems like I keep stumbling over her work -- truth be told I'd never heard of her before 6 months ago.

  5. This is my first time visiting your blog. My mom is best friends with Ruth Asawa's niece; they grew up together.

  7. I'm a sculptor myself, principally working with wire. Never came across Asawa's work but can see a very strong correlation between our efforts – www.rodgerstevens.info.

    Many thanks for the introduction.

  8. Thanks for captioning these photos. I've seen many o'them before but never knew their origins.
You seem to know quite a bit about Californian artists. Have you heard of Rose Mandel at all?
