1. Is that marvelous house still standing in Sedona?
ReplyDelete2. Wow! Love the Haida/Tlingit sculpture he's using as a bench. Bet that got beat to shit in the sun and dryness of Arizona.
3. The LI photo has him in an outfit that will be my summer uniform.
great post - befitting comments - no BS

ReplyDelete1. Believe it or not I just tracked down the address, and an even bigger believe it or not, it is for sale! I'll see what I can find out about the property and maybe do a post on it later today....
2. That sculpture bench would be worth a small fortune right?
3. I think I am going to go with the plaster spattered suit for my Early Spring 2012 look....

Great post indeed...the northwest coast carved wolf and kachina collection are insane-those were the days to be collecting I guess-I remember seeing a documentary way back about Ernst in the USA-there was footage of him working in Sedona, and also a scene in which they talked about him making these tiny drawings-a whole show for nyc which he transported in a match box.The only book I ever stole from a library was an M.E painting book in high school-this book seems worth stealing too :-O.

This is the film R4TH is talking about. Worth seeing.
ReplyDeleteI really like these photos and enjoy your accompanying captions. Perhaps I can help with the one you describe as "Acting Dada somewhere in France". In April 1923 Max moved to a house in Eaubonne in suburban Paris to live with Paul Eluard, Eluard's wife Gala and his daughter Cécile (who are also in the photo). Ernst covered the walls with extraordinary murals, a part of which can be glimpsed on the door and wall behind him. I suspect this photo was taken there.
