man crush: blinky palermo

Blinky Palermo at his exhibition
"Palermo. Bilder und Zeichungen"
Galerie Priedrich + Dahlem
Munich
1966

I had never heard of
Blinky Palermo
until I stumbled into a room of his paintings at
years ago.
It was love at first sight.
I wanted to start painting right then and there.
I didn't start for probably
for 4 of 5 years
after that,
but Blinky was always with me....

One of my paintings from 2009.
My goal was to paint 100 small paintings using the scraps
of plywood that the Lumber Store next door would
put out with the trash every Wednesday.
I'm not sure what number I am currently on,
but it is nearing
my goal
of
100.
They are very time consuming,
so it has taken quite some time.

Another one from last year.
They are all untitled.
The titles will either be their number,
the date,
or the name of the "celebrity who was getting the most coverage on
the week the painting was finished.
I haven't decided....
All I know is there will be a lot of Lindsay's....

  3. I like that photo where it looks like Beuys and Palermo are having a staring contest. Polke (RIP) is amused.
BTW, is there any medium that Gerhard Richter doesn't dominate? Those photos are insanely good.

Keep up the painting Mondo. Only criticism is maybe the ground should have a bit more depth/variation. Several light, even semi-transparent, coats of the black rather than one would do that. Maybe unjustified since the photos aren't the highest resolution, and I did just eat an asshole sandwich.

I wanna paint, too... Badly. (I will, too, I hope.)
